The Universal deal gives the estate/Prince control of which streaming services Prince's musik should appear on and I can imagine Jay Z aren't happy about this, Tidal will loose subscribers if all of his albums + rare stuff becomes available on Spotify for example. Im not sure if Jay Z tried to buy the unreleased songs after the Universal deal, but it would make sense. He wants to make more money of Princes music and continue to have exclusive streaming rights. I think Prince changed his mind and don't want his music only on tidal for streaming since there's more demand for his music now when hes "gone", he simply wants to make the music more available and easy to access, especially for new fans he got after his "passing". The deal with Universal is the publishing deal, I assume WB will continue as distributor for his music .
This part is a bit interesting: They're also claiming that Tidal, part-owned by Jay, was not authorized to make 15 of Prince's albums available for streaming shortly after his death.
My understanding is that it was part of the deal with Prince
Thunder, all through the night
Promise to see Jesus in the morning light
Take my hand, it'll be alright
C'mon save your soul tonight

The Difference Between Music Publishing and Distribution"
"Distribution is the act of making the score publicly available and accessible – getting it to stores, selling it online" (Tobenski, 2013).

(Tidal streaming service falls under music distribution. If Jay-Z/Tidal is fighting for distribution rights against Universal rather than Warner Brothers then Universal has future distribution rights. Universal is taking over Prince's distribution from Warner Bros and anyone else it seems.

As far as a Death Hoax all this "fighting" makes Prince and his work look "hot". Gets him attention too. Free PR.
